Privacy Policy

Robin is designed to be private by default. This policy explains what data the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.

1. What we collect

  • Bird photos.Photos you snap or pick are used to identify the bird. With the free on-device mode, analysis happens entirely on your iPhone. With Robin Pro's cloud mode, the photo is sent securely to our identification service and is not stored after processing.
  • Approximate location (optional). If you grant location access, we use your rough position to find birds reported near you and improve identifications. Location is used at query time and is not tracked in the background.
  • Your collection. Birds you catch, badges and streaks are stored on your device.

2. What we don't do

  • No account is required to use Robin.
  • We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.
  • We don't track you across other apps or websites.

3. Third-party services

The app relies on a small number of services to work:

  • Anthropic (Robin Pro).Cloud identifications and chat send your photo/question to our proxy, which forwards them to Anthropic's Claude API. Content is processed to generate the response and handled under Anthropic's data policies.
  • eBird (Cornell Lab of Ornithology). We query recent bird sightings near your approximate location. Your identity is not shared.
  • Wikipedia.Species photos and descriptions are fetched from Wikipedia's public API.
  • Apple. On-device identification uses Apple Intelligence on your iPhone. Subscriptions are processed by the App Store; we never see your payment details.

4. Children

Robin is made to be family-friendly. The app does not require accounts, does not include third-party advertising, and keeps collections on device. Parents: cloud identification (Robin Pro) sends photos to a cloud AI service, as described above.

5. Data retention

Your collection lives on your device and is deleted when you delete the app. Photos sent for cloud identification are processed transiently and not retained by us.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data. Since Robin keeps data on your device, you can exercise most of these directly. For anything else, contact us.

7. Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page.
